Top Dem Rep Claims Capitol Rioters ‘Wanted To Kidnap’ And ‘Kill’ Members Of Congress

Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI) spoke out on Monday to claim that the supporters of Donald Trump who raided the Capitol earlier this month “wanted to kidnap” and “kill” lawmakers.

Dingell claimed that she was not aware of “how much danger” she and other members of Congress were in until the rioters actually stormed the Capitol, at which time she felt it was clear that they “wanted to kidnap” and “kill” members of Congress.

“You know, when we were right in the middle of it, I don’t think I really realized how much danger we were in,” Dingell told CNN’s “New Day.” “We hadn’t seen television. And quite frankly, if you are a woman from Michigan, I’ve been living in the Donald Trump hell tunnel for a couple of years, with militia outside of my home, with assault weapons, rants and raves. And I thought I was safe inside the United States Capitol. When ultimately, they did evacuate us, we did hear the pounding on the doors, heard the gunshot. It was really real. But it was the aftermath when you really realized they wanted to kidnap members that day; they wanted to kill members that day.”

“[W]hat happened last week was clear collusion,” Dingell later added. “It could have been much, much worse. It’s shaking people’s faith in the fundamental pillars of our democracy, and I’ll be damned if we’re going to let that happen. And we are going to fight back, and that means all of us have to fight back.”

This comes after Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed that she thought she “was going to die” in the Capitol riots after a “close encounter” shook her to her core.

“I did not know if I was going to make it to the end of that day alive,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a lengthy video posted to Instagram. “Not just in a general sense, but in a very, very specific sense.”

“I can tell you that I had a very close encounter where I thought I was going to die,” she added. “And you have all of those thoughts where, at the end of your life…all of these thoughts come rushing to you. And that’s what happened to a lot of us on Wednesday and I did not think – I did not know if I was going to make it to the end of that day alive.”

Ocasio-Cortez claimed that she could not go into any further detail about this “close encounter” due to security concerns. However, she added that it was not an exaggeration to say that “many, many members of the House were nearly assassinated.”

“We were very lucky that things happened in certain minutes that allowed members to escape the House floor but many of us nearly and narrowly escaped death,” she said.
