Iowa senator wants to end tenure at state universities | The College Fix
An Iowa Republican state senator has once again introduced legislation to eventually eliminate tenure at the state’s public universities.
Brad Zaun’s (right) legislation would forbid “the establishment or continuation of a tenure system for any employee of an institution” according to the legislation. It would apply to any higher education institution “governed by the state board of regents.”
The whole idea behind tenure was to allow worthy professors to speak and teach as they wished without fearing backlash from students, other faculty, or administration.
Since that is obviously now impossible with cancel culture (aptly named, given practitioners seek to cancel culture itself) in full swing, I see no reason to maintain a system that no longer accomplishes what it was intended to do.
